Consolation Prize Lyrics by Alix Apples

Them Apples

2017

You smiled whenever she did
It’s clear she was what you needed
To keep you grounded
To a world you couldn’t care less about
We all thought you fit together
Although I wanted to I couldn’t resent her
Cause she did what I couldn’t;
She made you smile so brightly
Then she left. I smiled
I shouldn’t have smiled
You cried
I’ll be your consolation prize
It’s okay, I don’t mind, I’m just fine
At least most of the time
I’ll be your consolation prize
Until you’re able to find the one you need
I’ll be yours tonight
He worked at a buffet;
Had ‘all you can eat’ every single day
Although he nagged
I always say you both laughing
He didn’t like your friends, but he was good for you
Up until the end when he broke you in two
You deserve someone
Who’ll love you more each day
Who won’t leave, who’ll smile
Simply cause you smiled
Who won’t make you cry
I’ll be your consolation prize
It’s okay, I don’t mind, I’m just fine
At least most of the time
I’ll be your consolation prize
Until you’re able to find the one you need
I’ll be yours tonight
I used to think I could be the girl
Who was the centre of your very world
But I feel you deserved so much better than me
But through every heartbreak I will be there
I’ll comfort you whenever you are scared
Of being alone. I’ll be your second best
Then you left for someone
Who made you smile
I had no right to cry
I’ll be your consolation prize
It’s okay, I don’t mind, I’m just fine
At least most of the time
I’ll be your consolation prize
Until you’re able to find the one you need
I’ll be yours, but you’ll never be mine
I’ll be your consolation prize
It’s okay, I don’t mind, I’m just fine
At least most of the time
I’ll be your consolation prize
Until you’re able to find the one you need
I’ll be yours, cause you’d never choose me outright
