Dirt in the Gold Lyrics by Anna Grelle

Emotional Storms

2022

[Verse 1]
I cling to the shadows, as if they were my nightlights
Keeping me safe and sound
All these emotional storms keep kicking my feet off the ground
Without my dear demons, my mind creates new ones
Keeping them there as pets
They thrive in my darkness, as they whisper their bittersweet threats
[Pre-Chorus]
Aah, I'm uncomfortable with being comfortable
Aah, not fine with being fine
Always looking for dark ways to darken my mind
[Chorus]
I’m digging for dirt in the gold
To make it less beautiful
Getting rid of the shine, еnhancing the cracks
Everything golden fadеs into black
I'm digging for dirt in the gold
To make it less illusional
Putting out the false light, putting out the glow
Why am I digging for dirt in the gold
Why am I digging for dirt in the gold
[Verse 2]
I search for the monsters, I fall for the devil
Telling me I can't win
He’s horns are a halo to me, I believe him
Without my dear demons, I still seem to find them
My own stuffed animals
They sing me to sleep at night, while they're taking control
[Pre-Chorus]
Aah, I'm uncomfortable with being comfortable
Aah, not fine with being fine
Always looking for dark ways to darken my mind
[Chorus]
I'm digging for dirt in the gold (dirt in the gold)
To make it less beautiful (less beautiful)
Getting rid of the shine, enhancing the cracks
Everything golden fades into black
I'm digging for dirt in the gold (dirt in the gold)
To make it less illusional (less illusional)
Putting out the false light, putting out the glow (putting out)
Why am I digging for dirt in the gold
Why am I digging for dirt in the gold
