Chasing Someone Else’s Dreams Lyrics by Balsam Range

Five

0

[Verse 1]
At least five days a week - sometimes more
I'm up with the sun - and headed out the door
Most nights I don't get home 'til eight or nine
I make a living - anyway I can
Everywhere I turn - I answer to a man
Who only cares about the bottom line
[Chorus]
I've heard the old folks say - you'll never work a day
If you like what you do - and I'd say it's probably true
That the only way to find - the path to peace of mind
Is to follow your heart - right from the start
But it's never been as easy as it seems
Cause it's hard to get ahead when you're chasing someone else's dreams
[Verse 2]
I know that there's a lot of folks like me
Who aren't looking for a handout or an ounce of sympathy
Just a way to get a piece of the pie
Cause the game has changed for the common man
It takes credit cards, I.O.U.s and more installment plans
Spending every minute just trying to get by
[Bridge]
It's not because I'm lazy, out of touch or going crazy
I'm barely breaking even and I need a thing or two I can believe in
It's so hard to get ahead when you're chasing someone else's dreams
