Misunderstood Lyrics by Benji Lewis

2019

NIGEL / (ENSEMBLE)
On a Friday night
I get out my punk rock outfit
And I'll wear a tie (Yes he wears his ties)
So the girls will talk about it
Tonight's the night I'm gonna score! (He's gonna score tonight woo)
When they see this gangster hit the floor
But my mum says "Oy you brat, no way. Are you going out like that?"
But Mum doesn't understand where fashion's at
I'm just a bit
Misunderstood
I'm just a bit
Misunderstood
'Cause when you're a spotty and pubescent
Teenage adolescent
Lost in childhood
You're misunderstood
Shave your upper lip
ADRIAN MOLE
Oh Nigel no
NIGEL / (ENSEMBLE)
And you've got to pop that pimple (Tragedy!)
And to look real hip
ADRIAN MOLE
What do I have to do?
NIGEL
Got to pout your sexy dimple
CLASSMATE
Come and get a whiff of my big [?]
ENSEMBLE
He needs deodorant!
PANDORA / (ENSEMBLE)
I hope I don't start my menstrual flow
Oh no! (No no no no no no no no)
ENSEMBLE
But my mum says "Oy you brat, no way. Are you going out like that?"
But Mum doesn't understand where fashion's at
ALL
We're just a bit
Misunderstood
We're just a bit
Misunderstood
'Cause when you're a spotty and pubescent
Teenage adolescent
Lost in childhood
You're doing the things you never should
'Cause you're misunderstood
NIGEL
Here, A.D., look what I've got
ADRIAN MOLE
Big and Bouncy
NIGEL
Yeah. It's all about biology and that
ADRIAN MOLE
I'm not interested in nudity. I read D.H. Lawrence
NIGEL
Well, I'm running it with Pandora, mate. In fact, I think I'm gonna [?]. Yeah. Girls love a bit of danger
ADRIAN MOLE
It's so hard looking cool
I'm the saddest kid in school
And I haven't got the moves
Nigel's brave
He's strong
Knows the words to every song
And he gets all the funky grooves
But I never dance
So I'll never get the chance
Yes, it's Nigel she will choose
ENSEMBLE
Nigel! Nigel! Nigel! Nigel!
ADRIAN MOLE
But no
A.D. don't be such a brat
You can and you will go out like that
And dance
Like the Colin [?]
Not like that that
ALL
We're just a bit
Misunderstood
We're just a bit
Misunderstood
'Cause when you're a spotty and pubescent
Teenage adolescent
Lost in childhood
You're doing the things you never should
'Cause you're misunderstood
ADRIAN MOLE
Hi, Pandora
PANDORA
Oh, hi, Adrian. Nice outfit
ADRIAN MOLE
Thanks
ENSEMBLE
You're just misunderstood
ADRIAN MOLE
You know your eyes look just like our dog's
PANDORA
What kind of dog?
ADRIAN MOLE
A mongrel
PANDORA
Oh
ADRIAN MOLE
I've been reading War and Peace
PANDORA
I read that by the pool in Greece
ADRIAN MOLE
'Cause I'm an intellectual
In case you didn't know
PANDORA
Oh
ADRIAN MOLE
So could I maybe dance with you
NIGEL
So long as I get my turn too
PANDORA
You'll both get a twirl
ENSEMBLE
Just look at that girl!
PANDORA
What's that in your hand
ENSEMBLE
What's that in his hand
PANDORA
Why do you have Big and Bouncy
ADRIAN MOLE
It's not mine
PANDORA
I don't understand
ENSEMBLE
She don't understand
PANDORA
Your behavior quite astounds me
This is so offensive and obscene
Disrespecting women
PANDORA / ENSEMBLE
You're 13
PANDORA
But you're still an adolescent boy
ENSEMBLE
He's an adolescent boy
A [?] little bugger and a perv
ADRIAN MOLE
No, you've misunderstood
ENSEMBLE
It's a porno mag
ADRIAN MOLE
I think you've misunderstood
ENSEMBLE
Naked lady rag
ADRIAN MOLE
Nigel gave it to me
So the teachers would see
And just mess up my chance to dance with you
'Cause he knows that it's all I want to do
And it's only 'cause Nigel likes you too
TEACHER
Mole!
PANDORA
Is all this really true?
ADRIAN MOLE
I promise you it is!
TEACHER
You're spotty and you're awkward
You wear your trousers tight
You think you're John Travolta
And you want to hump all night
But what you've never realised
Is childhood's a drag
So stop these little mating calls
Go back to playing tag
WOMEN / (MEN)
Back to playing tag (But my mum says "Oy you brat, no way.")
TEACHER
You've been a little sad
WOMEN / (MEN)
Childhood's a drag ("Are you going out like that?")
TEACHER
It's terrible to brag
WOMEN / (MEN)
Back to playing tag (But Mum doesn't know [?])
TEACHER
Just go and smoke a fag
MAN
I'm not a Big and Bouncy man
WOMEN / MEN
I'm not a Big and Bouncy man
ALL
We're just a bit
Misunderstood
We're just a bit
Misunderstood
'Cause when you're a spotty and pubescent
Teenage adolescent
Lost in childhood
You're just a bit
Misunderstood
You're just a bit
Misunderstood
'Cause when you're a spotty and pubescent
Teenage adolescent
Lost in childhood
You're doing the things you never should
Go go, baby go
We want you to know
We're just a bit
Misunderstood
ADRIAN MOLE
Yeah!
