Salt On Skin Lyrics by Best Ex

With a Smile

2023

[Verse 1]
I don’t believe them when they say that time heals every wound
It just makes them dull enough to cover up, to cover up
Like the bruises on the back of my knees from the pedals of my bike
I promised I would call
And I just, and I just might
[Pre-Chorus]
But God bless the summer, the salt on skin
The way we slipped right under without noticing
[Chorus]
And now we’re in the backyard playing cards
Watching you blow out smoke, laughing at my bad jokes
Made a habit lighting fires, pretending they don’t burn
Say it don’t hurt, baby, say it don’t hurt
[Verse 2]
I don’t beliеve them when thеy say “if you love it, let it go”
‘Cause once you shut a door, it could stay, it could stay closed
Like that apartment on 1st Ave
Climb the stairs, undo the latch
Catch a glimpse of my old self before it’s, before it’s passed
[Pre-Chorus]
But God bless the summer, the salt on skin
The way we slipped right under without noticing
[Chorus]
And now we’re in the backyard playing cards
Watching you blow out smoke, laughing at my bad jokes
Made a habit lighting fires, pretending they don’t burn
Say it don’t hurt, baby, say it don’t hurt
[Bridge]
Waiting every night for the heat to break
Humidity so high that my hair betrayed me
Reach out your hand, brush a curl out of my face
And baby, I'm know for my mistakes
Pulling at the cracks of my heartbreak
But something’s telling me that this time things have changed
[Pre-Chorus]
God bless the summer, the salt on skin
The way we slipped right under without noticing
[Chorus]
And now we’re in the backyard playing cards
Watching you blow out smoke, laughing at my bad jokes
Made a habit lighting fires, pretending they don’t burn
Say it don’t hurt, baby, say it don’t hurt
