My Promise To You Lyrics by Big Mike (USA)

We the People

2019

[Verse]
The thought of having a child is crazy
But I could never go “Brenda’s Having A Baby”
Reality will never hit harder
Then it will when I find out that I’ll be a father
I know how hard my mother worked for me
That’s the kind of parent that I’ll strive to be
She did everything in her power to provide
Everything in her power so that we’d survive
I love my dad, but he lives so far away
I can’t help but wonder, what if he stayed?
What if he was here today?
When my parents got divorced, couldn’t help but feel responsible
But I know now it had nothing to do with me at all
Having divorced parents is tough
Especially at such a young age, it was rough
But I kept moving, kept breathing
It’s something that you’ll never have to worry about, believe me
You listening? I ain’t leaving
I’m staying right here, ain’t no ducking and weaving
Yeah
I promise to never leave you, even if your mama tweaking
Cuz my dad left me and I swear I’ll never repeat him
Speaking of your mother, we’ve yet to meet
But I hope that we can be
Together real soon, shoutout to DPG
And for you, we’ll make it work, that I can guarantee
Hey son, here’s your first piece of advice
When you get the girl of your dreams, treat her right
Hold the door for her, you know, be polite
Let her know that she’s the love of your life
That’s your first lesson, many more to come
And between all the learning, we can have some fun
Play catch, maybe listen to music together
Just know I’ll stick by you, even through bad weather
I’ll be there to guide you, I’ll be there to supervise you
If you ever need anything, I’ll be there beside you
And yeah, I’m a little scared
But I still got time before you’re here, I’ll be prepared
After all, I’m only 17
Growing up and having a child is just a dream
I gotta live life a little first
I’m not ready to change my whole universe
But when it’s time, I’ll be the best that I can be
And I can’t wait to raise my own mini-me
There’s so much in my life to look forward to
And guess what’s at the top of the list? Yeah, it’s you
So this is my Promise To You
Imma teach you everything that I knew
It feel like my job is never done
But I still thank the Lord for my son
I said, this is my Promise To You
Imma teach you everything that I knew
It feel like my job is never done
But I gotta thank the Lord for my son
