Jóln (Deities) Lyrics by Burzum

Umskiptar

2012

Ek man jötna
Ár of borna
Þá er forðum mik
Fædda höfðu;
Níu man ek heima
Níu íviðjur
Mjötvið mæran
Fyr mold neðan

Ár var alda
Þar er ekki var
Var-a sandr né sær
Né svalar unnir;
Jörð fannsk æva
Né upphiminn
Gap var ginnunga
En gras hvergi

Áðr Burs synir
Bjöðum of yppðu
Þeir er Miðgarð
Mæran skópu;
Sól skein sunnan
Á salar steina
Þá var grund gróin
Grænum lauki

Sól varp sunnan
Sinni mána
Hendi inni hægri
Um himinjöður;
Sól þat né vissi
Hvar hon sali átti
Máni þat né vissi
Hvat hann megins átti
Stjörnur þat né vissu
Hvar þær staði áttu

Þá gengu regin öll
Á rökstóla
Ginnheilög goð
Ok um þat gættusk;
Nótt ok niðjum
Nöfn of gáfu
Morgin hétu
Ok miðjan dag
Undorn ok aftan
Árum at telja

Hittusk æsir
Á Iðavelli
Þeir er hörg ok hof
Hátimbruðu;
Afla lögðu
Auð smíðuðu
Tangir skópu
Ok tól gørðu

Ár var alda
Þar er ekki var
Var-a sandr né sær
Né svalar unnir;
Jörð fannsk æva
Né upphiminn
Gap var ginnunga
En gras hvergi

Áðr Burs synir
Bjöðum of yppðu
Þeir er Miðgarð
Mæran skópu;
Sól skein sunnan
Á salar steina
Þá var grund gróin
Grænum lauki

Sól varp sunnan
Sinni mána
Hendi inni hægri
Um himinjöður;
Sól þat né vissi
Hvar hon sali átti
Máni þat né vissi
Hvat hann megins átti
(i "fadingen":)
Stjörnur þat né vissu
Hvar þær staði áttu

[English:]

I remember jötnar
Borned before time
In primeal time
They fostered me;
Nine worlds I remember
Nine jötunn -maidens (who dwells in the wood)
Before the measure-tree
Grew from the mold

Before time itself
There was nothing
No sand, nor sea
Nor cool waves;
Earth existed not at all
Nor the sky above
Just the gaping abyss
But vegetation nowhere

Until Borrs sons
Raised the lands
They created Midgard
Our praised world;
The sun shone from the south
Onto their stone halls
Then the ground grew
Green with plants

The sun hurled from the south
With the moon
Her right hand landed
Over the sky horizon;
The sun did not know
Where her hall was
The moon did not know
What his stenght was
The stars did not know
Where their places was

Then all powers went
To the judgment-chairs
The most holy gods;
And they declared that;
Night and hours
Should be given names
Morning also
And midday
Afternoon and evening
To tell time

The Æsir met
At Ithavoll
They made sanctuaries and high
Temples;
Made forges
Precious treasures
Shaped tongs
And similar tools

Before time itself
There was nothing
No sand, nor sea
Nor cool waves;
Earth existed not at all
Nor the sky above
Just the gaping abyss
But vegetation nowhere

Until Borrs sons
Raised the lands
They created Midgard
Our praised world;
The sun shone from south
Onto their stone halls
Then the ground grew
Green with plants

The sun hurled from the south
With the moon
Her right hand landed
Over the sky horizon;
The sun did not know
Where her hall was
The moon did not know
What his stenght was
(in "the fading" : )
The stars did know know
Where their places was
