Rue the Day Lyrics by Carly Cosgrove

See You in Chemistry

2022

[Verse 1]
We treated the fishbowl like the pond
I smacked against the glass and looked beyond
In a landlocked state, I thought I saw the sea
Those days, I got away with leap, then look
Now when I open my mouth, I catch a foot
But maybe a foot was somehow good for me
[Chorus]
I thought I was God
I thought I was cured
That nothing could touch me
That I had nothing left to learn
I thought I was good
Secure and assured
[Interlude]
I thought I was invincible
And I could put the stick in the spokes
So I put the stick in the spokes
Now everything hurts
Now everything—
[Verse 2]
I'm treating my new bowl likе a lake
By my mistake, I stayed insidе the state
And I thought I'd make a Groundhog Day mistake
But I psyched myself for the trebuchet
That'll throw me over the bowl someday
And I wonder if I still have what it takes
[Chorus]
I thought I was God
I thought I was cured
That nothing could touch me
That I had nothing left to learn
I thought I was good
Secure and assured
[Bridge]
I was rippin' CliffsNotes
And preaching like I wrote the book
In a cursory glance, there's a lot to overlook
I was rushin' through it
And tellin' my friends to stop
Untroubled by the trouble that I never knew I caused
'Cause I tried to do what you can't do right
Decoding the layers of a thing called life
But which is the fairest of them all?
The Fabergé egg or the matryoshka doll?
The Fabergé egg or the matryoshka doll?
[Interlude]
I thought I was invincible
And I could put the stick in the spokes
So I put the stick in the spokes
Now everything hurts
[Outro]
I was rippin' CliffsNotes
And preaching like I wrote the book
