Verse 1: Po3
A thug changes, and love changes
And as they tell me best friends become strangers
Yea, word up, but... I never thought this could’ve happened to us
I truly believed you had my back and so I granted my trust
Instead of hands upon my shoulder, it was dagger you thrust
And while it hurt I just imagined you must, like it was a part of the cycle
Harder you fight, the less you win
Back at the start of the hike I wanted to write with the best of them
Halfway up the mountain now and I question when the quest begins
Once I hit the crest I can address the wind, catch a breath again, spread it thin
I remember when intelligence was welcome in a conversation
But can’t recall just when we stopped relating
It’s hard to say it but I think we simply grew apart
I was so moved the day you introduced me to this art
That I would never stop and couldn’t do it just to prove I fit the part
I knew the hardest move to make was keeping true at heart
And so I meditated on it, my message stayed as honest
As a medicated prisoner who would get a steak for talking
And I’m a goner now, missing you is all I got left
I met you in a park back when I knew myself a lot less
I was a hot mess, you taught me how to cool my jets and talk fresh
Then you jetted, and I just couldn’t get to where you were headed, shit
Hook: Po3
So long, you’re not the man I used to know now
An imitator steady fakin’ on the low down
But hold on, me and the family got that old sound
Demonstratin’ how to hold down for the whole town
So long, you’re not the man I used to know now
An imitator steady fakin’ on the low down
But hold on, me and the family got that old sound
Demonstratin’ how to hold down for the whole town
Verse 2: Cee
Yeah, best friends become, best friends become
Best friends become strangers
Yeah, yo, I don’t have beef with anybody but I’m mad at you
And everybody changes but you morphed into a different dude
We met when I was a kid at 12 or 13
And I was immediately hypnotized by the way you dress and you speak
You was the coolest thing I ever seen or heard
I was impressionable, and soaked up all the game you puttin’ down in your words
And you was too real, my parents tried to stop me being ‘round you
But we never let a little interference stop us hanging out
And shit I studied you, you gave me a voice
I’ve given you love, you given me art, awakening passion that be moving the boy, pause
You showed me how to stand up as a man and speak my truth
Giving me confidence for shit I never knew I could do
But that’s a distant memory, I mean, I still feel your effect on me
But things ain’t been the same since you put money in your recipe
And there’s an element of fraudulence taintin’ your style I’m hearin’
A fuckin’ shame if you ask me but hey, you livin’
And I bet your soul is still intact
Behind the facade, behind all the lights and smoke and mirrors lies a realness that cracked
And here’s to hoping you don’t lose your glow
But for now, imitator, so long, you’re a shadow of the man I used to know, oh
So long, you’re not the man I used to know now
An imitator steady fakin’ on the low down
But hold on, me and the family got that old sound
Demonstratin’ how to hold down for the whole town
So long, you’re not the man I used to know now
An imitator steady fakin’ on the low down
But hold on, me and the family got that old sound
Demonstratin’ how to hold down for the whole town
