Backwards Lyrics by Chris Sligh

Mighty Roar / Healing Flood

2016

[Verse 1]
Outlandish love, how can it be a perfect King chose death to prove
In death to self, true life begins and I receive by what I lose?
The mystery of grace: You pursue even when I turn away
[Chorus]
You turn me around, everything upside down
And I see clearly now there's only after
You overcame my curse and put death in reverse
Gave imperfection worth
You turn things backwards
[Verse 2]
Forgotten wrong, how can it be that fallen man is lifted up?
The worst of all forgiven still and hope alone is hope enough
The paradox of grace: You pursue even when I turn away
[Chorus]
You turn me around, everything upside down
And I see clearly now there's only after
You overcame my curse and put death in reverse
Gave imperfection worth
You turn things backwards, backwards! ...
[Bridge]
How can it be that I should gain
From Your death and all of Your pain
Amazing love, amazing grace
You chose me even though I turned away
How can it be that I should gain
From Your death and all of Your pain
Amazing love, amazing grace
You chose me even though I turned away
Even though I turn away!
[Chorus]
You turn me around, everything upside down
And I see clearly now it's only after
You overcame my curse and put death in reverse
Gave imperfection worth
You turn things backwards, oh-ooh
[Outro]
You turn things backwards, backwards, backwards
You turn things around, God
