Such is the nature of Traumnovelle. And amongst other Strindbergian influences, the record’s function is primarily one of alchemy. One cannot change the past, but if there might be even the merest possibility of turning the black muck of shit into gold, then I simply must believe. This is why the record begins with a dream, and ends with a wish.
Can two broken hearts be mended and reunited?
The ongoing struggles of man and woman…
Oh my! I’ve created a record that absolutely reeks of domesticity! Whatever shall I do about that? I am gone now, at the moment… I only have a memory, a blink of the mind’s eye, reminding me, haunting me, with the virtues of bangers and mash prepared after a long day’s work in a fiftyplus hour sushiworkweek; a warm bed with fresh linens and a womblike doona sprawled out over it. There is a charm to the idea of a partnership… maybe even monogamy, for lack of a more accurate word… that spits into the inescapable darkness of endless void, turns its heel and never looks back… this is a bliss upon which no price can be placed.
But there is one thing… it’s not always fucking easy, is it? Well everybody’s gotta live and learn… and if we’re lucky we might just get another chance.
Thus, a simple wish. Such is the nature of Traumnovelle. Will my alchemy succeed in reappropriating my past and bringing me back to the heart of the matter… the mending of a broken heart?
Onwards, my friends… into the future.
