Baking A Cake (In Memory Of You) Lyrics by Cooza

Getting Better At Knowing You

2024

[Verse 1]
As far as baking goes
There’s not a lot I know
So I rely on the notes you left behind
[Verse 2]
First I pour the memories
Into the bowl
The sugar of your soul and the chocolate of your eyes
And how they cried
[Chorus 1]
Everyday is your birthday
When I’m looking at old photographs
A black dog curled around your feet
I held the camera
Put you inside it forever
Looking beyond the lens and right at me
[Verse 3]
You blow out the candles
Extinguish the flames
Another year slips from our time
[Verse 4]
You smile anyway
We eat the cake
'Til not a trace is left behind
Can we rewind?
[Chorus]
Everyday is your birthday
When I’m looking at old photographs
A black dog curled around your feet
I held the camera
Put you inside it forever
Looking beyond the lens and right at me
[Chorus 2]
I revise your recipe
But make it twice as sweet
To disguise the bitter taste of grief
It’s August 6th
And I’m singing happy birthday
Through the bedroom wall that divided you and me
