The Doomsday Clock News Lyrics by CurlyHaris

2020

I watch the news,
As people do,
From the warmest comfort of my front room...
They wait for word,
As they inhale fumes,
On a crackled radio,
In the midst of doom.
I blink
Like shutters click,
And I gasp in shock at what they depict,
Humanity ripped from homes,
Bodies buried between the brick,
What’s left of autonomy... falters quick,
Cities of structures, derelict.
Facts of false hope, cherry-picked,
Whilst you binge-watch,
Let that sit...
Families stripped of basic living,
Whilst we sit and shun the act of giving,
When’s the last time you made a difference?
In your busy life,
To stop and listen?
To the sound of life,
the peace it provides,
The freedom to get up and just walk outside,
They won’t bulldoze your house,
And make you defy,
They won’t take your children, and leave you to cry,
They won’t kill you for how you identify,
They won’t bomb your homes in the dead of night.
It’s not a joke,
It’s a reality for many made broke,
Where’s the support?
So many flames of hunger, our negligence stokes,
We’ve got masks,
They’ve got bodybags,
We’ve got freedom of expression,
They’re stuck with name tags,
They put the next Einstein on the frontline,
A child’s demise met via landmine,
How is that fine?
A child here might fall once during lunchtime...
Not become the victim of a tragic war crime...
We need to face facts,
Our peace is something we need to take back,
Somewhere else you’d get shot for trying to say that.
Be thankful,
Be mindful,
Let this be a reminder,
If we helped each other the world would be brighter,
I’m sorry that this all had to sound so dire,
But I’m especially sorry, to the sufferers and fighters.
One day you’ll achieve all your hearts desires.
