The Circus Lyrics by D. J. Beattie

0

In their circus of hate and delusion
A black big top smothers the soul
Where joy is unable to enter
And death is their one worthy goal
Feral children prowl in the darkness
Where respect is fear in the eyes
And God is the flash from a muzzle
And a thrill when another one dies
No master showing safe passage
The beasts lie in wait for the prey
The carnage continues unending
Salty tears are shed night and day
It's a war with no end or beginning
Nothing to be gained only lost
The killers are merely young children
While Jesus sobs up on their cross
Innocence is lost to the deluge
It's been carried away by the flood
Without any real understanding
To be buried in the mire and blood
It's a fall from the heights of denial
To fly without God as the net
The future that we are creating
Will look to the past and forget
