We are here today on behalf of Damien Savoy
I've not been informed of the extreme difficulty and frustration you've felt with Damian until recently being informed by a confident and trusted source
You write notes and instructions for your substitutes and this is normal
However, you wrote an entire paragraph with instructions on how to handle my child
Basically saying this is a bad kid, treat him as such, give him no chance, and set him up to fail
Not only did you set him up to fail, but you left the note out for him to see, crushing his spirit
I'm curious to know, how often is Damian mistreated this way:
Pointed at, singlеd out, and being labeled a bad kid?
Hе's being cornered
I would like to remind you of your lack of compassion for Damian
Not only is he fighting his own neurological system, fighting the symptoms of ADHD
But he is suffering from severe psychological and emotional abuse
Because of things that he has seen and heard as a child that no child should ever have to witness
He has suffered from loss, death, his parents separating, arguing, criminal activity
This kid has been through more than you can imagine
He has spent mornings, crying, "please don't make me go to school"
He's said to me multiple times that the teachers treat him like a juvenile delinquent
He's had headaches, anxiety
Sometimes he doesn't go to sleep till twelve or one in the morning because he's worried
And he doesn't want to go to school
He doesn't feel safe
*Exasperated sigh*
The biggest breakthrough this year was his self-image
On his own, he transformed his entire look
Do you know the first words out of his mouth, when I cut his hair, were "Do you think the teachers will like me more"?
I'm not here to excuse Damien's behavior
But I want you to know that I'm doing everything in my power at home trying to heal him and to put him on the right path
Now what are you doing?
You have the opportunity to influence my child eight hours a day, five days a week, nine months out of the year
And your greatest achievement with him is confirming that you don't like him
Damien has been blessed with an intelligent, brilliant mind
And he unarguably excels in his academics, this is his greatest strength and yet you only focus on his weaknesses
I'm here to remind you that what you focus on, you get more of
I'm here today to beg you and to plead with you to help me help my child
It takes a village to raise a child and it's time you do your part
