Harvest time what’s an eldest son to do
Mom’s getting older and there’s siblings to care for too
Struggling on for the next year that would pass
The gas man came to town waving around some free cash
Things were looking up, just more hard times on the way
It would only be a short time before the family felt betrayed
And you could hear a chorus of voices say
We were lied to by another suit and tie
Lied to as they look us in the eye
Lied to and then hung out to dry

Can’t eat the fish from the river
Can’t drink the water from the well, it needs to be delivered
There is something in the ground making the sick sicker
