The Sleeping Beauty Lyrics by eatthemooncake

Poetry in the Life of a Hermit

2018

When the prince arrived at the crime scene
he could not believe in what he had seen:
A lifeless body without the lightest tremble
that it almost looked like a sleeping beauty—
the sleeping beauty from the olden tales.
The purity of her skin was cold, but of snow
Her face, both his eyes came affixed to it
until he walked closer towards the coffin
and leaned over, his mouth lowering,
down for a kiss deep—
as he came into an abrupt stop.
“She’s already dead, but still dead-alive
She’s nothing, what can I do for her to revive?”
The hopeless prince cackled with the slightest fear
“It was over since; wherefore should I be King Lear?”
And he dropped towards a cold, medieval wall
searching for any modern solution he could recall
“It’s a disgrace that I stay while she does not replay her life
I travelled so far to reach her, but unable to lift her curse”
And then a single droplet, later overflowing with despair
covered over his bursting expression of shame.
“It’s lame, but I can surely reclaim her name
and give the final blessing to make a lasting repair”
And he clutched a rusty shovel
and pummeled it over a soft layer of dirt and cobble
and buried the living corpse, who, as if whispering in her final breath:
“Goodbye, my one and only love—the one who forsake;
the one who came, who lay, and took her to her grave”
