This Was Not Meant To Be Easy Lyrics by Ekko & Sidetrack, Sarah Carton

2023

[Verse 1]
He returns to the town that left him drowned and wanting out
New city growled so now he wants back in again
Walks down the high street, the closed HMV window
And so it goes, it's sad to see
Twenty-three, still on this street
Not home, the glass it taunts him
He misses the girl he first took home
The way she held his world
So safely, now lonely
Wishes she would come home, I need her to save me
But Jamie, she's across seas
Your friends have all moved on and your sister's at uni
Believe mе, you're a big boy now
This was not meant to be еasy
[Drop]
[Post-Drop]
These days, things don't stay on hold
Empty streets won't hide you when you're feeling cold
When time's a mess and you're on your own
Words out they're not coming home
[Verse 2]
Walks down the high street, the closed HMV window
And so it goes, it's sad to see
Twenty-three, still on this street
This was not meant to be easy
[Drop]
[Post-Drop]
These days, things don't stay on hold
Empty streets won't hide you when you're feeling cold
When time's a mess and you're on your own
Words out they're not coming home
