Deux pianos Lyrics by Emily Loizeau

Mona

2016

Esprit de contradiction
\nMona adore sa maison d'retraite
\nElle mène les infirmières à la baguette
\nQuand on l'oublie, elle crie
\nYoko Ono, en plus petit
\n
\nNouvelle lubie
\nMona boit quatorze bouteilles d'eau par jour
\nPotomane
\nMona, désormais, est potomane
\nIl ne manquait plus que ça
\nLes gens là-bas sont patients
\n
\n
\nJ'ai beau lui parler, rien n'y fait
\nMona se noie de l'intérieur
\nQuand l'eau aura dépassé le niveau maximum journalier
\nLe corps ne pourra plus rien absorber
\nL'eau deviendra toxique
\nMona s'asphyxie lentement (peut-être)
\n
\nI felt quite accurately that these must certainly be my final moments
\nThat this was the closing chapter of my really relatively short life
\nI felt as if I was travelling down
\nDown, very dark and forever down
\nFor seemingly such a very long time
\nAnd it wasn't unpleasant but from this awareness that one's head was terribly constricted
\nAnd I saw this bright light just this one here as people described
\nAs I continued sinking deeper and deeper below the surface
\nAnd one does think about one's life
\nQuite clearly about one's life
\nAs if it might be when one's observing a film
\nOr flicking through a book at speed
\nThe episodes of my life all laid before me
\nAnd the faces, strangely peaceful
\nI did not feel any panic
\nOver the expectancy one feels may be the usual over one's final moments
\nJust this discomfort
\nThis awareness of the constriction of one's head
\nGetting tighter and tighter as one felt as if one's head was bursting
\nI observed the history of myself unfolding as I descended
\nAnd I generally did not think to ever ascend
\nI felt that really I must breathe, eminently
\nBut had this awareness that when I did
\nIt would be water
\nOf course\n\n
