Me Lyrics by Ettrick Shepherd

The Brother Joseph Mixtape

2017

[Verse 1]
A lot of people used to be like “Joe, you’ll never go far”
Others were like “Yeah, get it, get it, go hard”
Never really knew what to expect
Ain’t even made a song properly yet
I guess I’m off to a slow start
I never make shallow shit, I drop to the depths
It’s not enough if I’m just scraping on top of the fence
But I got the momentum and I ain’t stopping again
But unfortunately one day it’s going to end
Confident as a kid, I would walk into school
Everybody knew I rapped so I thought I was cool
Used to brag about being a dope poet
I’m not arrogant and that’s why I don’t show it
Feels like I never had an actual life
Had to sacrifice the whole lot so I could sit with my pad and write
But I don’t care cos this gives me a natural high
Whenever I do this it sends me to paradise
Feet on the Earth, head up with the satellites
Read and rehearse every verse and then it’s hammer time
So take away my hope of having a lavish life
Cos with this here, I’ll forever be satisfied
Got my life back on track, found something I loved
Mind in the sky and there’s nothing above
I quit chicken heads, I don’t fuck with that
“Earth to Joe” Nah man, I’m never coming back
Used to only think about the pain and loss
But I replaced those thoughts with what I’m grateful of
And it’s payin’ off, I’m far better now
Cos I evaded everything that used to get me down
Tryna crack the iceberg and reach inside
To rap more diverse and deeper rhymes
I have to try to exceed my prime
I nap and sky surf when I sleep at night

[Verse 2]
My lyrics range from negative to positive
Clever with whatever my endeavour is
No stoppin’ it
Anything on my shopping list
You bet I’ll tick off that shit
Got a handle on life, no more flying off of it
Hogg is the name and we’re dropping the flame
Back in the rottenest days, I was off of the chain
Locked in a positive change and now I’m not so insane
But the afflatus stayed so I’m upon the top of my game
I know my own mind like the back of my hand
Got the wooden spoon but I'm still a flash in the pan
Nothing I wouldn't do and even less that I wouldn't try
Climb Uluru, achieve success in the lunar light
Paved the path for people, ingraved the art with needles
I may depart and come back with the aim to craft a sequel
But I'd rather remain relevant, my reign evident
The haters stay hissy fitters cos I did what they never did
Haha, I'm only speaking the truth
Got no filter which means that what I leak in the booth
Ain't weak and that's proof that I'm eager to speak what I see and
Exceed every beat 'till I'm reaching the roof
Just to tear it down
Tears dry and my face sports a weary frown
People judge me, I know that they stare me down
But I couldn’t care less if they’d compared me now
Cos now I’m stronger than ever, rode along through the weather
When you’re sad just know, no one’s sombre forever
Life hit me down an amount that you couldn’t count
But I’m fucking proud that I got it together
