Bring Rap Back (Intro) Lyrics by GIYAZ

PRISM Break EP

2017

[Intro: sample of a Barack Obama speech & G'Iyaz]
In the course of our history, only a handful of generations have been asked to confront challenges as serious as the ones we face right now
Along the way there will be setbacks and false starts and days that test our resolve. But despite all of these—despite the enormity of the task that lies ahead—I stand here today as hopeful as ever, that the dream of our founders will live on in our time
Yeaaaahh uhn
This is real talk right here
One for the old and the new school
Inna mean?
Yeahh
Let's go. Tally Ho!
[Verse 1: G'Iyaz]
I remember back in '06
I was 8, almost a decade old kid
The first rap song i felt came on the radio
Modenine - Nigerian girls, it was so sick
I fell in love with Hip hop that day
The rhymes, swag and the twang in the accent, i was totally amazed
Started rhyming from that day
Discovery of a genius
Gotta be it
Loved the fact that the sound was heterogeneous
The funk, jazz, soul and the boom bap kicks
I fell in love even more when i heard Nas spit
I know i can be what i wanna be
All i wanted was that life and to jump on beats
But i never did it right
I dropped rhymes, but didn't fix it right
Fast forward 2013
I joined Nairaland
It was like La La Land
Too many dope rappers
Streetwize, Emaprince and Spitzophrenik
The lyrics they wrote down, witty and so loud
I thought i could hear it
Inspired, so i wanted more
Approaching heads, moved to research
The cool and Ethers
The good and the dirts
So i learned the ropes from the culture point of view
The same culture you boys abuse
Spitting crap on skinny pants
Listen, man, now this is rap
But the question is
"How it went from this
To the dregs you spit?"
Look, i ain't saying you hommies can't trap
But you can't do it and let the rap slack
Cos you wanna stash cash
I'm just saying we gotta create a balance
And then a little challenge
Wake up and feel the talents
We soldiers, but we lost our ranks, that's sad
Miss the times when the flows and the raps crack
When you take shots and get clapped back
If you feel me stand up and bring rap back
