Juneteenth Lyrics by Griot B

Ourstory

2018

Tell me what you know about Juneteenth, Juneteenth
It’s time to celebrate Juneteenth, Juneteenth
Low ride, Hit switch Deep Fried Catfish
Hot grill, It’s Lit!
This ain't no Picnic!
Picnics are the name of events
Where folks in the south
Came just to sit And watch a black man
Hang till he’s limp
Strange fruit hanging from the trees in the south
This a Cookout!
And the reason for the celebration, Is emancipation
Cuz it took 5 months and 18 days
For freedom to reach those Texan slaves
Tell me what you know about Juneteenth, Juneteenth
It’s time to celebrate Juneteenth, Juneteenth
Bid Wiz auntie they can’t beat you
Domino again Pop?
They can’t defeat you! What’s in that cup Unc?
It ain't see through!
Two miles an hour so everybody sees you
We all having fun ‘cus on January 1, 1863
Lincoln said slavery was done In Confederacy
But the war wasn’t really won. So we weren’t free
Until the troops of the Union came enforcing
Granger with the union army
Issued order Number 3, 250,000 free
Can you see it from my view?
When the slaves heard the news
Cheering loudly dropping tools
Walking off chucking the deuce!
Tell me what you know about Juneteenth, Juneteenth
It’s time to celebrate Juneteenth, Juneteenth
Fourth of July, to some, is despised
‘cus when Declaration signed, we were still slaves
Life, liberty, and property – John Locke
We were still considered property – Dred Scott
But I live in the U.S.A
So on 4th of July that flag I’ll wave
But I’ll really celebrate on our Independence Day
June 19th Al Edwards paved the way so, turn up!
Tell me what you know about Juneteenth, Juneteenth
It’s time to celebrate Juneteenth, Juneteenth
After June 19th all slaves were free. No slavery
But the question in the south, how will we all learn
Because it was a crime for us to read
Or just to teach us math or science
Especially our history
That that we can do it, and become students
We need some universities
And it wouldn’t be prudent, to get some schooling
From those who beat our backs till they bleed
We need our own to teach our own
All black schools is what we need
