Rained Like Hell (Live in Amarillo, Texas) Lyrics by Hayden Pedigo

Live in Amarillo, Texas

2024

[Instrumental]
[Spoken]
This next song is a song of mine. It's the title track to my new record. It's called "The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored," and the title came from Doug Kenney. He was the cofounder of National Lampoon magazine. He also wrote the movie Animal House, but the title comes from a letter Doug Kenney wrote a friend not long before he died 'cause he died at around 30 or in his early 30s. And it's— a lot of people speculate on how Doug died. Some say he jumped off a cliff in Hawaii intentionally and committed suicide; some people say he fell. But he wrote a letter to a friend at the end of his life where he basically was reflecting on his time at National Lampoon and all the things he had experienced over the past years, and he told the friend, he said, "Those were some of the happiest days I ever ignored." And the first time I heard that, it just knocked me out completely. A lot of that comes from— I'm a very anxious person. I'm a very in my head, and a lot of the times I miss out on things. Things that I'm at physically, but mentally I'm just not present for it. So it's kind of like a moment like right now. I want to be present for this with all of you, and I don't want to miss out on that, so that is why the song is titled "The Happiest Times I Ever Ignored." It's a reminder to me, and I hope it's a reminder to y'all as well, and I hope you all enjoy these moments with each other. I'm enjoying this one right now with y'all
