Lay My Burden Down Lyrics by Jayne Trimble

In the Morning

0

Oh if I had listened to my mother, I'd have been gone about six months
But instead I listened to my lover, and lay my head down here
If I had known love would be so cruel I'd go back to the start
Where I'd lock my love inside a box and throw away the key
And if I do stay with the birds down here I'll lay my burden down
Oh Lord, my life is not my own, I lay my burden down
Oh at first it was alluring, at first it was pure joy
But it soon became my prison cell, my fight, my living hell
For the one I came to call my own, he strayed before the dawn
He's thе one I gave my life to lovе, the one they call dear John
And if I do stay with the birds down here I'll lay my burden down
Oh Lord my life is not my own, I lay my burden down
I lay my burden down
I lay my burden down
It was love that took me from my home, and love that keeps me still
Far from the ones I call my own, my blood, my flesh, my bone
Oh hide beneath the heavenly wing, you'll find me on my knees
Where I'll pray, I'll pray to our Lord above, to take my soul and hold
'Cuz if I'm to stay with the birds down here I'll lay my burden down
Oh Lord my life is not my own, I lay my burden down
I lay my burden down
I lay my burden down
