Tricky Lyrics by Jelani Blackman

2020

Sometimes I condone violence
You’re a liar if you say that you don’t
You vote for people that send out soldiers
You just don’t like violence you don’t own
Seen so many wars in my postcode
Mandem like orphans on the cold roads
When I’m on my ridgeback feds are slo mo when they go past that’s why my heart is a stone
People fear that that they don’t know
But they pop up like meerkats for the photos
Like yo that’s my g that’s my don that’s my darg then they stroll straight back to their 4 floor homes
Them man are lucky them a lucky that I’ve grown
Articulate so you know in your bones
I went to school in the square of the sloanes
South kids north kids east and grove
Locals made us know that we weren’t welcome
State school on a 1% road
But even then knew it looked good to live like them
And they’re more corrupted than most
Yeah it’s a tricky one still
My life’s been a sticky one still
Whole world on them Mickey Mouse pills
But Ima smile when they give me one mill
It’s a weird world out there
Childhood asking to touch my hair
Mmm they don’t say stuff but they stare
Or actually act like you’re not there
That’s must be them ones that don’t see colour
But see that black guy that’s my brother
You know that we don’t have the same mother
But we still feel the same 'cause we’re other
I’ve kept my feelings so undercover
'Cause this convos like burning rubber
It’s makes most ppl turn up theirs noses
But the roses ain’t sweet that you smother
It’s mad 'cause I’m that guy in private
Words spin your head like silly Simons
Just can’t be everyone’s teacher
You can’t teach go and speak to the sirens
It’s a tricky one still
My life’s been a sticky one still
Whole world on them Mickey Mouse pills
But Ima smile when they give me one mill
Why why why
Who what where when why
Oi nah I’m taking the piss
But I got questions
How long do i have to say we’re tryna make it better for our kids
We’ve done generations
Mistakes keep on mistaking
Ozone’s done penetrating
Like your girlfriend when you were locked up
'Cause you know she’s done with the waiting
I will not stay in my station stay in my lane
I’m fuckjng amazing
Say that with your chest to the pagans
If they say no man i start raging
If I held a knife to your throat and you felt it
Would you call your next action selfish
Or would you be defending you future
See how quickly your ego melted
It’s a Tricky one still
My life’s been a Sticky one still
Whole world on them Mickey Mouse pills
But Ima smile when they give me one mill
