Agates and Anemones Lyrics by Jellyfish Brigade

Diving Lessons

0

Yesterday I woke up and I was 60
With wrinkled skin and some aching bones
Tomorrow I'll wake up and I'll be 12
With scabbed elbows and an A.M. radio
Today I woke up and I was here
Confused by this setting and my age
I'd be a step closer to the what’s and the whys
But time keeps on getting in the way
Rolling down the city streets towards the freeway access
Heading further west for peace of mind and the seeking cliché latches
Just to sit atop the rocks and feel the splash when each wave crashes
And turn these scattered stones over on the hunt for beach made agates
Run my fingers through the tide pools to softly poke anemones
And gather driftwood like a message the ocean sends to me
What you find is what you look for, so wisely choose your treasure clues
My pursuit will probably change by the time that I'm reduced to residue
I've lead me to perspective views of pearly oyster elegance
Ever since I was a little boy with model toys of metal ships
I don't care to capture masterpieces with Polaroid development
I'd rather build them in the sand and let the water destroy the evidence
I've already joined the jellyfish, now I'll burrow with the hermit crabs
Staring at the horizon I understand why they thought the earth was flat
I'm a part of all of this, the mountains and the foggy mist
Burning the beacon brightly for that flying saucer audience
Throwing caution to the zephyr with plastic sling shot accuracy
Round the fire like magic pixies, smoking and smashing whiskey
I tossed the sand skrilla back but stashed the agate pickings
With a cactus prickly cool demeanor in case you haven't missed me
But it’s nothing, nothing but the songs and memories we've had
Depicted in the constellations we're drawing from our sleeping bags
Keeping tabs and holding on to the stances that we swore by
But I'll be a different man when I arise on the morning shoreline
Yesterday I woke up and I was 20
With a cocky grin and an answer to retort
Tomorrow I'll wake up and I'll be 45
With a mortgage and family to support
Today I woke up and I was here
Confused by this setting and my age
I'd be a step closer to the what’s and the whys
But time keeps on getting in the way
