L’Anse Lyrics by John Davey

L’Anse

2017

I stretched my arms and looked up through the new, improved skylight
The worries from the night before all slithered out of sight
And on your way downstairs you turned the Christmas lights back on
And the red retriever followed you into the early dawn

Well the chorus came and went without me noticing it pass
Autumn’s leaves are in the air, it all happened so fast
While you sang the words to half the songs that I had ever loved
It was the elemental tourniquet that quelled the gush of blood

So I drove to L’Anse and listened to Hank Williams on the way
With the busted windows out of whack along the lost highway
With the turning of the worm, I felt the slow and steady burn
Of a melody I knew was coming on

Well the water glistened in the Sun and I was One with Everyone
On the sand and grass where Everyone was One With Everyone, I won

And though the rancor stank around the tankard
Still I drank and thanked my Maker that He’d make someone as beautiful as you

So I drove to L’Anse and listened to Loretta on the way
With the busted radio still pickin’ up the lost airwaves
And I overturned the stones, I found the overtones and quartertones
And I wondered where it was that I’d gone right

Is it cool to be aloof? Or better to find one to love?
