"D-man" is our main character in this book. He faces the challenge of hunting a rabbit to prove himself to his uncle Clay. In his family all the men are hunters thus this complicates his opinions on hunting animals such as rabbits. Clay peer pressures "D-man" to become a hunter by giving him granddaddy's shotgun.

In The Hobbit Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who just wants to be left alone, but his isolation is soon destroyed when a wizard name Gandalf asks our hero to venture on a quest. When he declines his home is then invaded by traveling dwarves. Annoyed and curious he finally accepts to join on the adventure. They actually wanted him because of his history of thieving and his agility.
