A Letter to You Lyrics by K-Squared (Rapper)

2017

Hi, I've been meaning to write you but then for a long time I didn't know how I'd begin or what I'd say
It's definitely been a rollercoaster ride, we've come a long way
So tell me, how've you been? How's life?
Who'd have thought that you'd grow up so fast?
I mean you're way taller now
Definitely evolved from that little boy who used to talk like this, move with a dip in his walk like this
You were so naïve to the world and its ways, man
And you are becoming a man now, your siblings they look up to you
And although you may not always see it, your parents are proud of you
See I can only imagine the things you've been through, but simply because I'm not you... yet
So even though I am a version of you, don't dismiss me and my claims
I know you'll insist that I cease to persist and just live to exist to stay in my lane
But you were once me, so don’t forget
That it's not just the old who are wise and know what's best
And forgive me if I'm out of line, I never meant to overstep
I guess sometimes I know no boundaries like clothes from Pep
Kumbu, watch out
See I was speaking to Rodvan about the struggle and strife that one faces in life and he said something so blatantly wise it just hit me and stayed with me
I think his exact words were "Don't take this the wrong way
See I'm only trying to warn ya
See, life's complicated and not everyone in your circle is gonna be in your corner."
And he just had me like wow. And hey Mr K-Squared you've matured as an artist
I see the way that you stand out from these fakes
The way you command the mic, standing behind the trigger in your songs
Aiming your gun at anyone who betray
But I'm here only to beg you to stay humble and to count your blessings
Cause life can be full of bad jokes
See sometimes what you fail to learn, might just teach you a lesson
And don't you ever forget God, don't you dare
Don't act like you wasn't spared
Don't act like you wasn't there that day you could’ve died
And don't forget that that same tornado took lives
Funny how only when so close to dying do we truly feel alive
But hey, I’m not here to reveal your demons cause after all, we're only scratching the surface
And the purpose of this letter wasn't to put you down
You're a Lion King and that's what I like, so wear your crown and make sure that they know
And in this letter to you, I never meant to give you pressure see I appreciate the struggle
So keep on going hard, I know that these haters can't knock the hustle. Yeah
