He looked me up and down, “Yes, a very good morning to me indeed.” he said, smirking. I giggled before he pulled me into a kiss, it was soft and slow. I tasted that peppermint chapstick that I love so much. He pulled away, “Who are you going to see dressed like that?” he asked, looking me up and down one last time. I gave him a sad look and turned around facing the mirror again. He hugged my waist and looked at me through the mirror, “What’s wrong?” He looked concerned.
I sighed, “I have to meet Carriе and Timothy, my birth parents. Is this too much?” I was feeling self conscious, they alrеady didn’t like me enough to raise me so why would they want to see me now? He sighed before hugging my waist even tighter, “You look perfect Addy. They’re going to love you.” he stated calm yet confident. I didn’t agree with him one bit but I wasn’t in the mood to argue with him. Jonah texted me that he was outside, so I kissed Daniel on the cheek and said goodbye. I grabbed my purse and walked out the door toward Jonah’s truck, he was looking through the window at me. I hoped in the passenger's seat when I heard a small giggle from the back seat. I looked back there to see a brown haired girl with the most beautiful incandescent green eyes. She looked around 7 or 8. I looked back at Jonah who had a huge smile on his face, I held out my hand to her, “Why hello there, I’m Adelaine. What’s your name cutie?” I asked, trying to be friendly. She looked down when she looked back up at me her cheeks were red and she had a wide smile on her face. She looked at Jonah briefly before grabbing my hand and shaking it.
“That’s a pretty name. My name is Svea, I’m Jonah’s little sister!” she said, her smile growing as mine did. I just met my little sister, she is the sweetest most adorable thing ever. As Jonah drove to his house, I talked to Svea, she had a lot to say about cooking. I found it fascinating how much she knew as an 8 year old. Jonah chimed in every once in a while but other than that he stayed completely silent. When we pulled up Svea happily jumped out of the car, she quickly ran toward the door into the house. My breath hitched in my throat, my heart wouldn’t stop beating. I was horrified, no matter how many good things Jonah said about his parents to me they sucked. After a few encouraging words from Jonah, I opened the car door slowly before stepping out. I made sure my steps were small and slow because I really didn’t want to walk through that front door. It took all the courage I had left in me to knock on that front door, when it opened there was a middle aged woman standing there. She had brown curly hair and deep brown eyes, she had a large smile on her face. “Omg Adelaine!” she gasped before pulling me into a tight hug. I pushed her off of me and she frowned, “Hi you must be Carrie.” I said calmly, trying not to punch this woman in the face. She can’t just think that I would forgive her after she left me.
“Yes that’s me, why don’t you come inside?” she asked, disappointed. She was obviously expecting me to call her mom. I walked inside and shortly after so did Jonah. He sat next to me on the couch and placed a small pat on my head. He looked at me seriously, “Dad’s coming.” he said lowly. I looked up to see a tall man in front of me. His greyish brown hair hidden by a backwards cap, he gave me redneck vibes. He looked at me with his green piercing eyes, it’s like he was staring right through me. This only made my palms more sweat and my heart beat faster. I looked at him, “H-hi T-t-tim-o-othy.” I stuttered out as he moved closer to me. He kneeled down in front of me before holding out his hand. A smile growing on his lips, “No need to be nervous Adelaine. I’m your father after all.” he said that last part quietly so only I could hear. I was furious with that statement, he is and will never be my father. I held in all the rude remarks I wanted to state and eased back into my seat. The day dragged on, I learned that Tim is a musician in a musical duo with his brother. I really just wanted the day to end, all my thoughts were rude and somethings I was thinking you wouldn’t want to hear anybody.
“Sweetheart, would you like to stay for dinner?” Carrie asked, in a sweet tone. This just set me off, every bad thing that I was thinking about came out of my mouth, of course I had to censor myself a little.
“You have no right to call me sweetheart!” I screamed at both her and Tim, “You don’t have the right to call me anything but Adelaine. You left me not the other way around! I’ve spent the past 18 years feeling like a worthless piece of garbage because of you! You’ve put me through h*ll and back and you expect me to just forgive you! Well you got the wrong impression, Carrie because I am not your daughter, nor will I ever be!” I finished screaming and looked at Carrie and Tim. They both looked at me like I was the hardest math problem in the world. I could feel the tears streaming down my face as I ran out the door. I didn’t know where I was going but I needed to be away from that house.
After about an hour of running around Portland, I went to Daniel’s house. When I got there Jonah was waiting for me in the driveway. He was sitting in the bed of his truck staring at the night sky. He noticed me walk up the driveway and jumped out of the truck. He looked sad and worried, like a big brother would, “Addy don’t ever do that again!” he said, urgently pulling me into a hug. I let my body fall limp in his arms, my whole body hurt, I could stand anymore. I loved how warm his arms were, I practically fell asleep in his arms. He dragged me inside to Daniel’s room and placed me on the bed. He grabbed me a pair of black sweats and slipped them on after taking off my boots. He walked away toward the bathroom while I got comfortable, when he got back he wiped all my makeup off with a wipe.
