Before I could check the time, there was a honk outside. Daniel’s here, I guess, I thought locking the door behind me. He had a nice car, a white Mazda CX-5, I got in the passenger seat putting my football bag and backpack in the back seat. “Goodmorning!” Daniel said, as he pulled out. I said it back and stared at my hands, fiddling with my fingers. “Meet Virginia” by Train was playing, very quietly, barely audible on the radio. Nice to see he has good taste in music, I started humming the song, still looking at my hands when he said, “What’s that?” he pointed to the top outline of my tattoo, which was poking out of my sleeve. I roll up my sleeve to give him a better look, he looks at me shocked. I don’t know why it was so shocking it was just a little tattoo, it didn’t even hurt that bad to get and of course I got permission from my parents before getting it.
“My tattoo?” I said, confused, “How did you not notice that it was there?” He looked at me for a quick second, and parked. “I guess I was too busy looking at your face..” he muttered under his breath. I blushed, I wasn’t supposed to hear that but it was still nice. I looked at him before he got out of the car.
“I don’t know if I should take that as a compliment, but thanks!” I said, stepping out of the car. He got out and practically ran over to my side, I was standing by the closed door when he blocked me from walking away. He got closer to me, my back hitting the side of the car, I looked into his blue eyes. “You should, you’re beautiful,” he said. I tried not to read his thoughts, which seemed to work. We stood there, leaning closer and closer until Corbyn started running toward us, crying. Daniel winked at me, “We’ll continue this later.” he whispered, lustfully in my ear before walking toward Corbyn. I was frozen, I couldn’t move my body at all until Daniel called my name. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked up. Corbyn was crying in Daniel’s arms, I walked over to them, Corbyn let go of Daniel and hugged me. He buried his face in the crook of my neck, I slowly rubbed from the back of his head down his back. I whispered sweet little nothings into his ear, to calm him down. After about 15 minutes of hugging, he pulled away and stood up straight. I put my hand on his cheek and softly caressed it, he leaned his face into my hand. He was looking at the ground, I stared at his blue-green teary eyes, trying so hard not to listen to his thoughts. ‘Why did she do that? What did I do? Why am I not good enough?’ he thought, almost making himself cry again. I pulled him into a second hug, hardly a minute later he sniffled and pulled away again.
“Corbs, what’s wrong?” I asked, softly. I have never seen Corbyn cry and I was scared. He looked at me, his eyes were so puffy and red. It looked like all the joy and love he had in him was gone.
“C-Cr-Cristina, sh-she ch-ch-cheated on me!” he said, choking back sobs. I nodded to Daniel, telling him to take care of Corbyn. I smiled, “It’s ok Corbs, I’m here.” I said softly, trying to hide my anger. I walked away almost stomping away to look for Chrissy. I quickly found her standing by her locker. I walked up to her, steam practically coming out of my ears, “CHRISTINA MARIE HARRIS!” I screamed, approaching her. Everyone in the hallway looked at me, I didn’t care what was going on around me, all I cared about right now was Corbyn. She looked at me shocked and confused, “You know what you did!” I was angry, and I was raising my voice which I rarely ever do. She thought about it for a second, pulling me off to the side, into an empty classroom. I yanked my arm away from her, crossing them across my chest. I looked at her, my face burned with rage. I was so mad at her, Corbyn is my best friend, I love him but not in a romantic way. I hated watching him cry, I only wanted him to smile and seeing the joy fade from his beautiful teal eyes made me want to cry. As I stood there in mad silence
thinking about Corbyn’s face, tears threatened to fall from my eyes.
“I’m sorry, I was drunk..” she started to explain, crying. I knew that the tears were fake, she didn’t care and I know she didn’t. I scolded her, “Christina! Obviously, you don’t care because if you did then you wouldn’t have done it in the first place!” I yelled, I wasn’t trying to keep my voice down, I didn’t care if the whole school heard that she cheated. She started coming closer trying to hug me. As she got closer I screamed, “Don’t touch me! And I swear if you talk, look or even breathe in the direction of Corbyn again, I will hurt you!” I walked out of the door, I ran into Daniel, who was standing outside listening to our conversation. He stopped me and pulled me into a hug, I complied almost immediately hugging him back and snuggling my face in the crook of his neck. His body was warm, he smelled nice, his hand softly stroking my hair. I didn’t realise I was crying until we pulled away and he wiped my tears away. His movements were so gentle, just then the bell rang. I let go, said thank you and slowly walked back to class with a smile on my face. It was stupid to fall for him but I did, I fell for his beautiful blue eyes, the way he smiled and even his voice. Everything about him was perfect, even his imperfections, like his tooth gap, just as beautiful as his soft brown hair. I was smiling like an idiot when I reached my math class, I sat down and waited for Daniel to get here.
