The Shy One Page: 8 Lyrics by Kalee Fetters

The Shy One

2020

The day was slow, I spent most of my time trying to cheer up Corbyn, making sure he was ready for the game. By game time Corbyn had calmed down a lot, he was still extremely upset by what Christina did. I ignored Christina and only hung around the boys all day, but it’s not like she was alone, she had her ‘friends’, the cheerleaders with her. I was in the girls locker room by myself, being the only girl on the football team and all. It was quiet and isolated, I sat on a bench and started to tie my bright pink cleats when I heard the locker room door open and lock. I looked up to see his bright eyes in the dim light of the locker room. He trekked closer and closer, allowing me to get a closer look at his body. He was wearing his football uniform, his deep blue cleats blended with the darkness. Obviously, he looked extremely hot in the uniform, he made it look amazing. He kneeled down to my level, tying my left shoe for me. He looked me up and down, biting on his lip. When he was done he looked at me in the eyes, ‘I’m going to do it!’ he contemplated over and over again, almost making my head spin.

“You look undeniably hot in that jersey.” he said, softly grabbing my face in his hands. His skin was soft and toasty against mine, that tingly feeling came back again. He leaned in closer, I could feel his warm breath against my lips. “Is this ok?” he asked, his words gently sliding off his tongue. I thought it was sweet how he asked, I slowly nodded my head. He delicately placed his lips against mine. I swear I was floating, every stressful thing that had happened today went away. My brain was clear, this was the best feeling I’ve ever felt I never wanted it to end. Sadly he pulled away, “We should get out to the game…” he said, his voice quiet and full of disappointment. He was about to walk away before I grabbed his wrist to stop him. I knew I had to do this now or I wouldn’t have enough balls to do it later.

I stood up right in front of him, “Can we do that again?” I asked, hopeful. He smiled, his eyes glowing. He put his hands on my hips and pulled me closer to him, I put my arms around his neck. He let out a content sigh, “Yes!” he said, joy filling his face. I stood on my tippy toes, our lips meeting once more. Just as delicate as the first, his plump pink lips tasted of peppermint chapstick. As we kissed our lips moved in sync, like they were made to connect. Everything around us dissipated once again, it was just us. Then there was a loud bang on the locker room door, “DANIEL, ADELAINE! GET OUT THE GAMES ABOUT TO START!” Jack screamed through the locked door. The big metal door kind of muffled his words, the noise of his banging ringing in my ears. Daniel pulls away and we both blush. I get down off my tippy toes and walk towards the door. I look back and Daniel hadn’t moved, “You coming?” I ask, my voice barely higher than a whisper, I was still in shock and by the looks of it he was too. He looked up at me, ‘Her lips are just as soft as they look and they taste like cherry. She smells like vanilla and lavender.’ his thoughts made me smile, but he didn’t move. I walked back over to him, grabbed his hand and dragged him out of the locker room. We walked out and Jack was standing by the door, he had a smug smirk on his face. Daniel was still stunned, I walked up to Jack, I let go of Daniel's hand and kissed him on the cheek before walking away and putting on my helmet. I took a glimpse behind me and saw Daniel frozen in place blushing. Jack grabbed his arm and they started walking. I chuckled and started jogging toward the team.

I caught up to the guys and we waited for Jack and Daniel. When they came over we talked about the plays, I put my mouthguard in and ran toward the field with the boys. The game dragged on and we were losing, 16-11, all we needed was a touchdown and a 2 point-conversion. I had the ball and I was running toward the end zone but, there were too many players behind me. I made a rash decision to throw the ball over to Daniel, who was running down the other side of the field. I closed my eyes tight when I got tackled. I hoped that Daniel would catch the ball and win us the game, the guy got off me and I opened my eyes, getting up. Daniel had made it to the end zone, gotten us the touchdown and was now dancing around like an idiot. I smiled and ran toward the boys, and we group hugged with coach. I took my mouth guard and helmet off letting my long brown hair flow down my back, everyone in the crowd went quiet for a second. I really wanted to scream, girls can do anything guys can, but didn’t. Daniel ran over to me, as I was walking to the locker room. He stopped in front of me, “Thanks for throwing me the ball!” he said, smiling. I looked up at him, “It was a smart choice to make so we could win the game.” I said, walking past him into the locker room. I walked to my locker, grabbed my clothes and started changing. When I was done, I grabbed all my stuff and walked outside to find Daniel standing by the door. “Can you drive me home?” he asked, smiling. I looked at him like he was stupid.

“I don’t have a car. I mean unless you want me to drive your car.” I stated, crossing my arms. He nodded and we walked to his car. We were all going to Corbyn’s house to celebrate our win. In the car Daniel and I jammed out to music, and laughed at each other. He was really nice, he had a great personality and he was really hot. Let me add extremely talented at everything he does, in a way that makes you mad. I pulled up to Corbyn’s house, I took the key out of the ignition and looked over to Daniel. He leaned over the center console, putting his warm left hand on my right cheek. “Can we do that again?” he asked, quoting my line from earlier. I chuckled. “Yes!” I said, super excited like he did earlier. He let out a little chuckle before pulling my face closer to his. Our lips met for the third time today, still his lips soft and tasting of peppermint chapstick. This kiss was just as soft and passionate as the others. This time his hand moved down to my thigh, he lifted my right leg over the console so I was now straddling his lap. I broke the kiss to let out a giggle, grabbed his face with both my hands and pulled into another kiss.

He smiled into the kiss, “That.giggle.is.the.cutest.thing.I’ve.ever.heard.” he said, giving me a peck between every word. When he was done he just stared into my eyes, his bright eyes glowed in the sun shining through the window. He started rubbing the outer part of my thigh while we sat there in comfortable silence, looking into each other's eyes. His thoughts consisted of how beautiful this moment was and the, honestly, very nasty things he wanted to do to me. He soon opened the door and carried me out of the car, my legs around his waist. He carried me to the door, pushing my back against it, making a really loud bump noise. I giggled, “Daniel James Seavey! Put me down now!” I said, smiling. He chuckled and put me down as someone started to open the door. Jack opened the door, “You good out here?” he asked, with the stupid smug smirk on his face. I looked down trying to hide my bright red face, Daniel looked at me and scratched his nose suspiciously. Jack’s face brightened, “Oh! Well come in, I guess!” he said, exburebently. I looked at Daniel, one eyebrow raised, I honestly was really confused. He smiled and walked inside, I came in slowly behind him thinking about what just happened. I followed Daniel and Jack into the living room where all the other boys were. Corbyn was sitting on a loveseat, Jonah was sitting on a small couch on the other side of the room from the chair. Jack went and sat next to Zach, who was sitting on the ground in front of the TV playing Fortnite. Corbyn looked up from his phone when I sat in the middle of the bigger couch. I watched as he stared at his phone, never looking up, he was looking at pictures of him and Christina. I’ve never seen Corbyn so sad over something, he was so heartbroken that it hurt me just as bad. We were all waiting for pizza so we could celebrate, so when the doorbell rang I assumed it was the pizza person. Nobody was paying attention so I had to get the door, I slowly moved Cody’s head off my leg and walked toward the door. The doorbell rang again, I opened it to see someone I didn’t want to see. She tried to step inside the house, I was not letting that happen so I stepped outside, she stepped back as I closed the door. “And what exactly are you doing here?” I said, my tone very sassy.
