I’m Rhetoric Lyrics by Keaten Clarno

0

Who was I to you?
Just a stepping stone?
It seems, to me, utterly arbitrary
And forces you to reject
My treatise that one mustn't reduce
A phenomenological subject to an object
Which you knew was a necessary
Core value of my humanly project
Who were you to me?
Am I seriously going to say
That I don’t know?
It’s not true, if I do; I promise you, but
Categorization has never been my friend
Though I admit I treated you unfairly,
You were not a means to an end
In fact, whenever “Golden” blarеd clearly,
I would think of you as I listened
Who was I to you?
Somе half-priced cologne?
You just wore me and then
You left me all alone, so
I poured myself into a 7-page letter,
Hoping to procure compassion and dialogue
But I should have known better
I’ve never had an affinity for this
Perhaps, in reality, you were right, and
I don’t have the gall to be a begetter
Who were we to each other?
Some folks on our rock opine
That the future has yet to be told
And neither has the past,
Then, according to the manifold
But that’s not representative
It’s actually quite solidified in stone
Yet, we are left to immaturely behold
The world, chaotically and brilliantly aghast
Though, if we try to make it our own,
We find ourselves inexorably downcast
Even if Einstein were right,
It now seems to me that questions
Don't always imply answers
We have no direct access to the past,
So we are left to be tightrope dancers
Will we reach each other across
The great divide in experience at last?
Take comfort in being hopeful little bastards,
For that we are not permitted to ask
Who are we to this world?
A superfluous speck or
A preordained Godlike incarnation?
I don't know, and it's beyond our control
Anyway, meaning is derived from imagination
And has no bearing on the noumenal world
Or even, at times, each other's morality, so
None of these questions have implication
And, even if they did, a covetous man
Would likely turn them against us and
Send us unscrupulously to damnation
