Layaway Lyrics by Larry Fleet

Earned It

2023

[Verse 1]
My feet get wet every time it rains
From the holes in the soles of my old Red Wings
Truck needs tires, house needs paint
But they gonna have to wait
Yeah, she's cuttin' coupons, I'm cuttin' back
Workin' overtime, takin' lunch in a sack
Bills get checks and groceries get cash
Ain't much left after that
[Chorus]
For a little boy with his eye on
A brand new rod and reel
And a little girl with her heart set
On a dollhouse that I can't build
Aw, well, life's still good and God's still great
To walk in here every other Friday
And put a little more down, put a little more down
On layaway
[Verse 2]
A dog-eared page in a magazine
From where she was flippin' through it, lookin' at a ring
'Bout double the size of the one she got on
But that ain't sayin' much
She'd never ask for it, she knows we can't afford it
To me right now, there ain't nothin' more important
Than havin' that rock in my dip can pocket
And lightin' her up one day
Yeah, so put it on layaway
[Chorus]
Got a little boy with his eye on
A brand new rod and reel
And a little girl with her heart set
On a dollhouse that I can't build
Aw, well, life's still good and God's still great
To walk in here every other Friday
And put a little more down, put a little more down
On layaway
[Bridge]
You know it's hard to save for a rainy day
When you're tryin' to keep your head above the water
But it'll all be worth it when I see her face
When she sees this ring I bought her
[Chorus]
And my little boy when I hand him
A brand new rod and reel
And my little girl when she walks in
On a dollhouse that I can't build
Aw, well, life's so good and God's so great
To walk in there this past Friday
And put a little more down, I don't owe a dime now
On layaway
[Outro]
And I don't owe a dime now
Well, it's all mine now
I bought it on layaway
