Why-S - Swagmine (Song Review) Lyrics by Lexton Trill

2020

Alright so this song came out last year in July and was the last song that Why S released before he was killed in late 2019. after he came out of jail he dropped 2 singles, John Wick and then Swagmine. John Wick got more views but I prefer Swagmine because I think it’s a better song overall. anyway let’s go…
The Production:
The beat is rather generic. the song is 140 bpm, a very common tempo for trap beats. it’s quite basic with little to no variation especially the drums which is very basic. the main melody is a bell sound that I find really cool that reminds of a song that I heard years ago. the cool thing about it is that in the middle of the melody it goes one octive higher which always sounds good when producers do it. there are 2 other sounds that support the main melody and they complement it nicely. there’s not much to say about the drums. The beat is very catchy overall.
Hook:
When u hear the hook u will see that he is using the Speaker Knockerz flow. that flow/melody is very popular although these days ppl don’t use it as often which makes this song kinda unique as it doesn’t sound like mainstream trap music of today. his delivery is awesome in my opinion. it’s weird, effortless and messy. he just doesn’t give a fuck. he actually sounds like Cheif Keef to a certain extend. there are ad-libs, auto tune and so much shit on top of each other but it does sound really good and catchy somehow.
Verse 1:
At the start of the verse, in the first couple lines, Why S continues to use the same flow/melody as the hook so it does make the transition from the hook to the verse, smooth and seemless. he then proceeds to change up his flow a couple times for the rest of the verse which prevents it from becoming boring. his lyrics is really good too. there a lot of cool and hard bars. he give a lot of shoutouts to his homies too. he does reference and downright copies lines from other songs, I don’t necessarily have a problem with that but it does come of as lazy.
The other thing that I’ll command him on is when the verse starts there is no drums and throughout the verse there is an actual buildup and he get’s more angry and more aggressive until the beatdrop which was really cool.
My favorite lines:
Bands got me sleepy
And my Glizzy swag the beam just for safety
We came too far can’t stop now
Ride ‘round with my top down
If you try to follow you’ll get shot down
FB that’s Brogawd
KSav done go mawd
Have your mom crying like “oh god, where’s my son oh god”
Verse 2:
The second verse is short and I think it’s a good thing. it makes the song shorter and more replayable. it’s only 4 bars but they go pretty fucking hard. and that’s all that really matters.
Money counter I don’t count the racks
Always swag the glizzy so how could I lack
Wassi killed so many that I’m losing track
Freedom is a must so imma be right back
IMO it’s a great song. I played it so many times that I’m losing track. lol. I actually memorized the song which is very rare for me.
That’s it for the review.
Rate: 10/10
