The human race has always been enslaved by its neuroses (numbers, shapes etc.), as in the tragic case of the farmer with crippling OCD, completely obsessed with visual symmetry, placing his barns, crops and livestock on the left and the right evenly. He lost an arm in the threshing machine, and all of that week the sorry lopsided sight of himself in the mirror was driving him crazy. So, he went back up to the threshing machine and stuck his other arm in to even himself out, but now how’s he supposed to do any farming?
The accountant had to touch everything in the office before he could leave, in a very particular order, or he couldn’t get any sleep: pens, lamps, the secretary- if he screwed up the order he had to start over, you see. He started leaving work later than most so it was less embarrassing. One night he was working late when a fire broke out in his building, and the poor fellow is rushing around, trying to touch everything (messing up the order because he just keeps panicking), and now how’s he supposed to do any accounting?
As a young man Bill was stabbed by a hooker. Through the trauma he developed a stammer, a chronic suspicion of women and a need to have sex with everyone that he sees. He’s had almost every girl in town, their mothers, soon he’ll run out of bodies - complaining ‘w-what am I g-g-going to d-do when I’m d-done having s-sex with these ones?’
