Candles Lyrics by Long Division

Moses Herman Jacobs

2021

Let's all reflect upon the viciousness of men
The listlessness of trends, and the perniciousness of ends
Thoughts anarchic forming in the apartment;
Scribbling cityscapes on a pretreated parchment
Worn from the grind; need to switch up the scenery –
Forget the public life and rush into the greenery
Abandon all logic just to frolic in the bucolic solace –
Strike up a chorus in the forest by a cottage
We dabbled in the dark arts and white magic –
Black rags and red masks and scraps of white satin
Lifе's pageant was stagnant prior to the advent of thе
White rabbit – spattered caskets and black acid
Flickering candles; shimmering chords –
Channeling worlds; handling mandolin gourds
Wands, swords, cups, major Arcanum –
Consult with heavy books and then explain 'em to the laymen
The shaman with a titanic awakening; prodigious
Progeny. So, like, welcome to the colony
Educate the masses on Charlemagne and Ptolemy
The spear of Antioch and the basics of numerology
The voices from the marsh keep calling me solemnly:
“Follow me” – clouding my awareness like lobotomy
Still we read poetry and cop the local pottery
Using shards of crockery to carve the latest mockery
Dissonant discussions of forbidden subjects
Uttered by a grinning culprit from a hidden pulpit
The new order borders on morbid tortuous torture
Buzzards congregating on a sacrificial altar
Mortar and pestle crushing herbs into a mulch
Abandon earthly vessels in a gulch and take lunch
Fractured missives lead permissively to wisdom
“Do what thou wilt” replaced the written prohibitions
Execute the missions and ball like Rosicrucians
Weekly secret meetings enervate the elocutions
Do my ablutions then I swallow the pill –
I'm a shill in the shale growing kale on a hill
A sudden gale caused the solution to spill
Sipping pale ale from the skull of a seal
Mutations prevail past the run of the mill
Yeah, you know the drill once the thunder's revealed
The blood is congealed within the mutton and meal
Speaking in tongues and left you stuttering still
Pedantics brand us as quasi-neo-Romantics
Overly frantic with the mad manic antics –
Damn. That’s just semantic grandstanding
Kidnapped the innkeeper's wife without a ransom
