Interview with Kurt Lyrics by Lootpack

Soundpieces: Da Antidote!

1999

[Conversation between KutMasta Kurt and Wildchild & Madlib of Lootpack:]
[Wildchild] Yeah, gotta take the time, you know what I'm saying, give it up to my man Kutmaster Kurt for giving this album...
[Kurt] Yeah... and after spending all of this time in the studio, recording this album...
[Wildchild] Word...
[Kurt] I was kinda just curious, what the name Lootpack meant?
[Madlib] Yeah...
[Wildchild] Ah, you know, "Loot" basically comes from the word "steal," so basically, Lootpack – we're here to steal the minds of those caught up in the wack side of this industry, you know what I'm saying?
[Kurt] Ahhh, yeah, ok, I'm feeling that. Uhm... what roles do each of you actually play in the group?
[Wildchild] Well, you know, my man Madlib could say...
[Madlib] In addition to writing them lyrics, I also make the beats for the crew. My man DJ Romes holds down the cuts and scratches, for all y'all DJ's out there. While my man Wildchild hits y'all with the ill lyrical... hit them emcees, East, West, North, South... wherever you at... and there you have it
[Wildchild] Word. B-boy styyyyle...
[Kurt] So uh, what would you say is your purpose?
[Madlib, in the background] East... West... [continues on]
[Kurt] Or, uh, more of like, what do you guys actually have to add to Hip-Hop as a group?
[Wildchild] Well, you know... besides, we coming with our own original sound, you know, we're just tryna... can't really answer it in one question, in one sentence... we're just tryna come, bring back that old b-boy way, Hip-Hop, you know what I'm saying, that raw vibe
[Madlib] Positive... that positive vibe
[Wildchild] Yeah... you know what I'm saying? On the positive tip. 'Cause you get a lot of people that, you know, they get influenced by the record biz, you known I'm saying?
[Madlib, singing] Taking out wack emceeeees.... [*sparks lighter*]
