The Hero Lyrics by Lost-Verses

Ode to Life (The Hero)

[The Hero enters the forest.]

Behold the wonders of the forest, the creature of many and one

Footsteps through the lush green grass, dewdrops glinting in the sun

The Hero like a bird, nothing but the wind to hear, ultimately free of time, and false restraint and fear

But he keeps a close eye, for he is suddenly aware, the shadows of an ancient evil are slowly drawing near

[The Hero has stopped in the forest.]

From behind a tree, the figure surges

The contorted body of pure darkness emerges

A draw for a sword, and a sudden strike

They circle each other like hounds in a fight

[The Hero is confronted by the Darkness.]

Dull sunken eyes, and wide mournful cries

No flesh and no bone, no love and no soul

A life wasted and torn, left to incinerate and burn

But not before giving one last soul, a final cursed turn

[The Hero engages the Darkness.]

Eyes wide, body shaking, the Hero makes his move

Too slow for the Demon, he is struck down too soon

The Hero falls, and time slows as he watches the world fly by

For as his body embraces the grass, a single tear falls from his eye

[The Hero has fallen in the forest.]

From ear to ear, a demonic grin

Another soul chalked up for him

The Darkness laughs, utterly preternatural titter

From not a single gazing bird, a single solemn twitter

[The Hero has lost to the Darkness.]

Writhing in darkness, the Hero is held

His mind racing, his body felled

Her warmth, her lips, he must not lose

Between life or death, he must now choose!

[The Hero makes his choice.]

The mocking stops, it cannot be

Was it choice, or destiny

For the Hero to arise?

His fall was true, but his loss, all lies

With his sword in hand, and bravery in his heart

He had never given up, and he was not about to start

[The Hero rises in the Forest.]

The Darkness steps back, it had never faced such a foe

But before it could retreat, the Hero steps upon its toe

For it will not get away, halt another life ever

For ironically, it’s the Darkness’ soul string that instead the Hero will sever

[The Hero has defeated the Darkness in the Forest.]

With the Darkness past, and the evil gone away

The Hero lies down to serenely enjoy the day

Eyes skyward to the Heavens, the Hero gazes at the clouds

The enigmas of forever, the fabric of reality’s shroud

[The Hero races through the forest.]

With a spring of his hands, the Hero quickly jumps up

The adventurous spirit in his heart, nearly ready to erupt

He dashes onward to his goals, nothing holding him back

For the ability to give-up, is just one thing he lacks

[The Hero leaves the forest.]

The Birds tweet him farewell, for the edge of the forest is near

The Hero halts as he steps out, gazing upon his dear

His beloved wife, hands on hips, marches forward, beautiful lips

She is angry, he can tell, but she so dearly loves him, as well

[The Hero goes home.]

And so they leave, hand in hand

Their time an hourglass, infinite sand

His story is over, yes it is true

But what about your life? And what about YOU?

The Hero is forever
