Promises Lyrics by Mark Wilkinson (AUS)

Golden Afternoons

2023

[Verse 1]
You're just one step out of the dark
Revelry’s engine failing to start
Living to replicate the golden afternoons
You're just one step out of the dark
[Pre-Chorus]
But I don't wanna listen to the answers
I just wanna forget everything
[Chorus]
So maybe falling apart is the right idea
We got lost but didn’t bow to the fear
We know what to say, but left it too late
'Cause we relied then on the presence of fate
Hope you get what you want if you just take a stance
Tell me a lie than rather leave it to chance
'Cause honest mistakes only get in the way
And I know I made a promise
Know I made a promise
Know I made a promise to stay
[Verse 2]
I've touched down further than I thought
Lonely diversion tracing an arc
Out in the stratosphere, it's hard to plan your fall
I've touched down further than I thought
[Pre-Chorus]
But I don't wanna listen to the answers
I just wanna forget everything
[Chorus]
So maybe falling apart is the right idea
We got lost but didn't bow to the fear
We know what to say, but left it too late
’Cause we relied then on the presence of fate
Hope you get what you want if you just take a stance
Tell me a lie than rather leave it to chance
’Cause honest mistakes only get in the way
And I know I made a promise
Know I made a promise
Know I made a promise to stay
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus]
So maybe falling apart is the right idea
'Cause we got lost but didn’t bow to the fear
We know what to say, but left it too late
'Cause we relied then on the presence of fate
Hope you get what you want if you just take a stance
Tell me a lie than rather leave it to chance
'Cause honest mistakes only get in the way
And I know I made a promise
Know I made a promise
Know I made a promise to stay
