[Intro]
I wrote this letter for my dad
Dear, dad
[Verse 1]
Dear dad it's me
I've been thinking I've been dreaming wishing that you could see
What your little girl would be
And now my heart is broken
I feel like you was stolen
Dad my heart was open
I'm sorry for the men I've chosen, I know
I was chasing for a man like a check
It's something I regret
I was looking for love the wrong ways
Hoping they would feel your space
But it ain't nothing like a father's place
But you gotta understand that I never had a man
Show me what the real is
I never had chance
I was staring at this picture of, you holding my hand
And the smile on your face and your eyes was just priceless
They say I'm just like you, attitude super feisty
I know you would've spoiled me and said, "what prices?"
Treat me like the queen that I am, I'm a heinous
The older that I'm getting dad, the more I realizing
[Chorus]
I wrote this letter for my dad (for my dad)
Dear dear dad (dear dear dad)
And for my future man to understand, he gotta understand
[Bridge]
I like knowledge what a real man will do
But if he love you he gonna teach you that's the truth
He gonna stick around and build you up and fight just like a troop
It's a fairytale for me, something I ain't used to aye
It's a fairytale for me, something I ain't used to, aye
[Chorus]
I wrote this letter for my dad (for my dad)
Dear dear dad (dear dear dad)
And for my future man to understand, he gotta understand
[Verse 2]
Aye, please do me this favor
Realize that patience and growth is something major
I'm the type of person put my pain on a paper
Roll a big bag roll it all up in papers
Excuse me if, I'm a little off with the talks man
Growing up, I wasn't really used to no talks
But yeah I'm trying to change
But realize my pain
Like why I had and attitude each and every day
I was mad I was bitter
Pouring Henny on my liver
Tell the Lord forgive me
Cause he know that I'm a sinner
But my outcome daddy I'm a winner
And I'm only a beginner
Man they never believed me
Why they never believe me
That life ain't been easy, they let the image fool them
I'm blessed to be breathing
On a picture I'm cheesing
Inside I'm grieving
Looks are deceiving
And I gotta keep achieving
I say daddy you the reason, aye
It's a fairytale for me, something I ain't used to
[Chorus]
I wrote this letter for my dad (for my dad)
Dear dear dad (dear dear dad)
And for my future man to understand, he gotta understand
[Bridge]
I like knowledge what a real man will do
And if he love you he gonna teach you that's the truth
He gonna stick around and build you up and fight just like a troop
It's a fairytale for me, something I ain't used to, aye
[Chorus]
I wrote this letter for my dad
Dear dear dad
And for my future man to understand, he gotta understand
