Promised Land Lyrics by Matthew Gilbert

Getting Over All Of It

2022

I’ve been so distant away
Caught in the system today
Come one come all into the night
Into the desert “hear our cry”
Oh no, it was for nothing
(Send your rain, Oh God)
The burden is heavy the travel so long
(Kill our fame, Oh God)
Take back the mantle that was so lost
(Hold the pain, Oh God)
Cover the children cover the man
(Make your way, Oh God)
Send us the rain, heal our land
Bramble and honey, you say
Good for the tummy always
We always search for something to sustain
But now we’ve learnt to take the easy way
Oh no, we were so stubborn
(Send your rain, Oh God)
The burden is heavy the travel so long
(Kill our fame, Oh God)
Take back the mantle that was so lost
(Hold the pain, Oh God)
Cover the children cover the man
(Make your home, Oh God)
It’s not what I thought of the promise land
There’s still time left for us
Time left for us, time left for us
There is still time, there is still time for us
There’s still time!
(Send your rain, Oh God)
The burden is heavy the travel so long
(Kill our fame, Oh God)
Take back the mantle that was so lost
(Hold the pain, Oh God)
Cover the children cover the man
(Make your home, Oh God)
It’s not what I thought of the promise land
