Forest of Bones Lyrics by Merry Christmas

The Night The Night Fell

2020

The days pass by
In silence by your side
The plastic cups
Are piling up
By you
Ride this locomotive forward
Through this blasted forest we run
Lightning links the branches to us
Electricity in every operation
Oh this forest of bones
Ride this locomotive forward
Through this blasted forest we run
Lightning links the branches to us
Electricity in every operation
Stop this missing come home
Find a garden
Plant a forest of bones
In the background
It will harden to stone
Are you hungry?
Are you missing your sleep?
Do you feel that?
Hear the surgeon’s gloves squeak?
Through the garden
Through the forest of bones
Fingers crawling
They won’t catch me, Oh No!
As you watch them
With their hands in my ribs
Do you wonder
Is it better like this?
The days pass by
The fireworks glow
Inside the glass of your window
But we
Won’t celebrate
This year
I take my fingers from behind your ear
And step out there
Where friends converse
Hit glasses and assume
The worst
As I appear
Alone
Inside the doorway
Their eyes hang so low
They know
It’s “no”
