Dose of Game Lyrics by E-40, Michael Marshall

Rule of Thumb: Rule 1

2023

[Intro: Michael Marshall]
We need a dose of game
40, come speak to us
[Verse 1: E-40]
This music feels good like the old school
Even if you young, one day you gon' be old school
Used to be a Thundercat, that's the way he lived
'Til he had his first daughter, 'til he had his first kid
Life'll slow you down when you got some obligations
Gotta get a job, gotta get a occupation
Gotta stay alive and survive through the woes
Get your shit together, try to figure out your goals
You ain't never been a sucker, you ain't never been a buster
You would take the shirt off of your back and give it to another
You could get caught up in some sucka shit hella petty
Even if you cool with hella niggas in your city
They say a hard head make a soft ass
And you could learn in the future what you did in your past
Play the game for what it's worth
Stay prayed up and put the good Lord first
[Chorus: Michael Marshall]
We go through ups and downs, yeah, life is topsy-turvy
Some days are happy, lately I feel tore down
We need a dose of game, come and let 40 lace you
We need the truth, so 40, come speak to us, man
[Verse 2: E-40]
Uh, it's okay to be a student of the game and ask questions
Life lessons is a blessing, congregatin' with your brethrens
Everywhere that you go, pray before you enter the door
Trust me, it works, 'cause I done been through it before
Seeded and breeded in Vallejo where it was meant for us to fail
Don't wanna see any W's, all they wanna see is L's
You could be an attorney instead of hauled out on a gurney
Or a small business owner, control your destiny and journey
This world is full of hatred and this world is full of love
When I die, don't wanna see no crows, just some doves
Rappers get killed in they city or leaving out of the club
Gotta keep the faith and give your loved ones some hugs
The only way to predict the future is to create it
Believe in yourself, that's what the prophets told David
Keep the blood of Jesus, tell the devil he's a lie
Look him in the eye just like a stye (A stye)
[Chorus: Michael Marshall]
We go through ups and downs, yeah, life is topsy-turvy
Some days are happy, lately, I feel tore down
We need a dose of game, come and let 40 lace you
We need the truth, so 40, come speak to us, man
[Bridge: Michael Marshall]
Oh, speak to us, man, we gotta keep smiling
Speak to us, man, we gotta keep shining
I know you heard it before, but E-40, speak to us, man
Life can get crazy
It's a cold game, shit could get mainey
Cold, cold game, 40, preach to us, man
We need relief and soon
I hope somebody's listening, ayy, oh
[Chorus: Michael Marshall]
We go through ups and downs, yeah, life is topsy-turvy
Some days are happy, lately I feel tore down
We need a dose of game, come and let 40 lace you
We need the truth, so 40, come speak to us, man
