Letter To Newtown Lyrics by Mike Joey

2012

Letter to Newtown
My mind hurts at this
I said my heart bleeds for this
I can't, fathom the pain, we’ll never be the same
Is this a dream or real life? what has humanity became
So much hate in this world, I can never understand it
This couldn't be the way that our fore fathers planned it
Where Violence is a must, and each side points the blame
Still we haven't figured out that we've all been the same from the start
See it's an art to grow wiser
An the ignorance of the passenger
Is the same as the driver
And the rest of us watch
As the love we once felt
Lowers just a notch more while theres no signs for help, we
Wanna make a change, well look in that mirror
And wipe off that smirk if you wanna see things clearer
That family you hold dear? maybe you should hold it dearer
And hug your mom tonight even nearer. see we're on the path to fail
It starts with ourselves and the culture that we live in
Where violence reigns hell, and heartache is a given
These artists nowadays only concern is what their sippin
An the audience translates that to what tool they should be grippin
You see I had a vision, to change the way we livin
To Love the life you live, and live the life you’re given
Then the pastor walked in and he's preaching about hope
While the homicide rates are showing exponential growth, god damn
We can..change the world if we try
Through a speech or a message, every word of every rhyme, it's bout time
We stand up for our beliefs
A world without love but just hate that one seeks is
Becoming clearer
Inyet were hardly left to function
The news stories filled with our own self destruction
Were a world under construction
Of our own self corruption
We judge books by their covers
With our own self assumptions, this is
All much bigger than the actions of a demon
No matter which god, jah or allah that you believe in
The reality is harder then the cement
There’s hate in our hearts when really we don’t need it
And 26 souls became 26 descends
And 26 angels became 26 reasons
For us to wake up
An open up our hearts
Man the road may be a long
But this is where it starts…like this
“We all want to help one another
Human beings are like that
We want to live by each other’s happiness
Not by each other’s misery
We don’t want to hate and despise one another
In this world there’s room for everyone
The good Earth is rich and can provide for everyone
The way of life can be free and beautiful
But we have lost the way…”
