Before the Demon Was My Friend (Interlude) Lyrics by Mikey Lax.

2019

Before the demon was my friend, you could say it startled me
It sat curled in the corner of my bedroom, in the dark
It was smaller than I’d imagined in my head, before it met me
With a black vapor leaking from its exposed beating heart
Before the demon was my friend, when I finally paid attention
It told me it was lonely, and asked if I could talk
I said, “I don’t think that’d be best,” I didn’t let it
But it lectured, and I noticed that it grew, just a touch
Before the demon was my friend, we had nightly chats
With the windows open in my room, or else it’d throw a fit
Every night my soul would get kicked, punched, and stabbed
And every night the demon would grow, just another inch
Before the demon was my friend, it was too big to see
When I left it unattended, it would start to torment
One night, I surrendered, and it devoured me with glee
And that was how the demon and I became friends
