The tale I tell leaves Beowulf
and Homer in the dark.
Regarding scares, nothing compares
to the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
A century ago when I
lived in the land of Sarb,
there was a knight, who wished to fight
the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
He got a sword of tempered steel,
and shield ornately carved,
then he went off to find and kill
the beast of Nod’n Arb,
whose fiery breath had caused a drought
and made his people starve.
Thus, he went off to find and kill
the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
Equipped with both his sword and shield,
and leather armor garb,
he traveled to the mountain cave
of the Beast of Nod'n Arb.
He found the cave and went inside
with face covered by arm:
He could not stand the awful stench
of the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
Yet deep into the cave he went,
and though the trip was hard,
he left his pride in wont to find
the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
Then after miles underground,
with walls like teeth of shark,
he found the dome, which was the home
of the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
With razor claws and teeth and scales,
and tail with poisoned barb;
exhale of flame; and it was named
the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
An epic battle soon ensued
- worth being kept by stars -
between the knight who was myself,
and the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
It was too strong, I tried to flee,
but the entrance had been barred.
My heart went cold, just to behold
the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
Then, with a final stroke of strength,
though beaten, broke and scarred,
I thrust forward, with just my sword
at the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
Then as I felt my world go dark,
and as I hit the ground,
I heard the beast say “Silverback”;
what I meant I can’t expound.
I woke to find myself alone,
at home within my bed.
My ears were sore, for they still bore
the things the people said:
“It’s still alive!”, “Protect your wives!”,
“We’d best still be on guard!”.
I guess that I will ne’er defeat
the Beast of Nod’n Arb.
