Read The Room Lyrics by NAHreally & The Expert

BLIP

2024

[Chorus]
I’m tryna read the room
Yo, I swear that I’m really tryna read the room
I’m tryna read the room
Yo, I swear that I’m really tryna read the room
Every room has a vibe
If you enter it wrong they might pull out the knives
I’m tryna read the room
[Verse]
Yeah, I know how to act at a wedding or funeral
But rules in other rooms can be truly unusual
And unspoken and undetermined and tenuous
And misbegotten, unfair, and disingenuous
I’ve entered rooms and been utterly confused
To the point that I was so unsurе of what to do
That I used a soup spoon when I wasn’t supposed to
Been ovеrdressed, underdressed, under watchful eyes
Of vibe vigilantes making sure we all comply
With the mores and the norms of the place
An impressive adaptation by the human race
To survey the spot in a moment with a sixth sense
As if there’s a visible aura like on Pig-Pen
And evaluate the mood like that
But it’s a skill not every single person might have
If I come in hot or act a little distant
Just give me some assistance with the reading comprehension
[Chorus]
I’m tryna read the room
Yo, I swear that I’m really tryna read the room
I’m tryna read the room
Yo, I swear that I’m really tryna read the room
Every room has a vibe
If you enter it wrong they might pull out the knives
I’m tryna read the room
[Verse]
And the thing about the room is the room grew
The room now includes the whole world due to
The interconnected nature of internet communication
This has some claiming they can’t say shit
They can, but now poor taste rhetoric
Uttered in Indonesia might be heard in Connecticut
It might fly within those four walls
But if it’s shared widely more people are involved
In drawing the boundaries of normal conversation—
Usually by removing casual hatred
Yeah, some people overpolice language
But when the main complainants are transphobic and racist
There isn’t really much adjusting we should do
I don’t think it’s that they can’t, they don’t wanna read the room
They’ve got to learn to live with shit that they can’t say
Or live with the consequences coming their way
’Cause some people are just cruel
Let’s not accommodate them and their fucked up views
