[Intro]
Under established power structures, we became accustomed to a system marred by racism, sexism, oppression of minorities, and dangerous cases of child abuse in God’s name
[Verse 1]
Had enough of your disguises
The ones you hide behind inflicting violence, yeah
We don’t condone disguises
We don’t condone this violence
[Chorus]
We know what you did
(We know what you did while keeping a lid on all this abuse)
It’s hard to forget
(It’s hard to forget and you don’t regret, that’s why wе’re upset)
No time to prеtend
(No time to pretend, don’t try to defend what can’t be defended)
[Spoken 1]
“Racial slurs were used against my brother, they would stick objects in his afro”
“I got pregnant at 19 and was told I wasn’t allowed to come back, they treated me like I had a Scarlet A on my chest”
“When I came out as agnostic they told me I was going to hell”
“There were discussions where homosexuality and queerness were compared to beastiality and pedophilia, meanwhile the sexual objectification of the female body started at a horrifically young age”
[Verse 2]
Make it known throughout the city
The one you’re living in not accidentally, yeah
We don’t condone disguises
We don’t condone this violence
[Chorus]
We know what you did
(We know what you did while keeping a lid on all this abuse)
It’s hard to forget
(It’s hard to forget and you don’t regret, that’s why we’re upset)
No time to pretend
(No time to pretend, don’t try to defend what can’t be defended)
[Spoken 2]
“He then said proudly, ‘Women who can have children and don’t are sinful and selfish,’ while looking at me”
“I’ve always felt like my time there was something I had to recover from”
“Every day I worried about whether or not I would be punished for my body”
“I don’t want anyone to ever feel the hurt I felt from a place that proclaimed God’s love for everyone”
“I left with an utter distaste for religion that I’ve never been able to move past”
“If you don’t fit into their box, they discard you”
[Verse 3]
It’s the hypocrisy of the patriarchy
Pages of your sins like The Odyssey for me
Fake rules that you pick and choose
While piety hides systemic abuse
Jesus loves me this I know
But you’re saying something else behind closed doors
Think that you’re better cause you’re people of God
But you’re more like a wolf yeah the sheep’s a facade
I said a facade
[Chorus]
We know what you did
(We know what you did while keeping a lid on all this abuse)
It’s hard to forget
(It’s hard to forget and you don’t regret, that’s why we’re upset)
No time to pretend
(No time to pretend, don’t try to defend what can’t be defended)
[Verse 4]
This scripture creates friction
When your actions don’t meet your diction
See now your purity is fiction
Need to testify to your addiction
You won’t get any forgiveness
You scared countless children
Retribution’s my witness
Won’t finish til you’re extinguished
I said extinguished
[Chorus]
We know what you did
(We know what you did while keeping a lid on all this abuse)
It’s hard to forget
(It’s hard to forget and you don’t regret, that’s why we’re upset)
No time to pretend
(No time to pretend, don’t try to defend what can’t be defended)
[Outro]
Shut it down, shut it down, shut it down
The devil’s at home on your hallowed ground
Shut it down, shut it down, shut it down
The devil’s at home on your hallowed ground
Shut it down, shut it down, shut it down
The devil’s at home on your hallowed ground
Shut it down, shut it down, shut it down
The devil’s at home on your hallowed ground
