The action of abandoning the Self -just like it happens in Ankoku Butoh (japanese "dance of darkness")- is in fact the action of forgetting about our own selves in a dionysian sense. Somehow it could be interpreted like that. For me, that abandonment of forgetfulness is not exactly "getting rid" of a set of ideas, of that cultural implant that is nothing more than a social construct and a very efficient tool for self-deception. "Getting rid of" of "erasing" any set of ideas of anything else inside our bodies is impossible. Every single thing marks our bodies constantly, from the super light-weighted neutrinos to the touch of another body. We are all marked by social constructions, we are all contaminated, marked forever by all that surrounds us and by all that our senses can feel. Nothing that our senses capture (consciously or not) won't disappear magically. The "Self", for example, defined by philosopher Gilles Deleuze as “...only a threshold, a door, a becoming between two multiplicities” can just be handled more or less consciously through hard mindful thinking and we can only try to have it work in our own benefit. For example, we can use that set of ideas called "Self" to simply survive, or we can use it to as a strategic weapon against exploitation, discrimination and social and political stupidity. Other than that, actions that could make us grow and explore the depths of life and death in the existential level will find "the Self" -or any other "identity" for that matter- absolutely useless. The questions will still haunt us: what are we? why are we here? how did life was possible? what is this existence full of wonder and also full of horrors? Wanted or not, we can only continue creating and destroying, transforming ourselves. The "Truth" is left for fools.
